Goodreads Redesign

1 week | June 2024

Goodreads is the largest site for individuals to search for book recommendations, quotes and reviews. The project aims to propose potential ideas for a more seamless user experience. As an avid reader, I find it difficult to browse book recommendations and check on finished and want-to-read books.

Questions were asked to users regarding their dissatisfaction with the website design and here are the insights gained:

- Goodreads homepage can be overwhelming to navigate through to-read-books and recommended books
- Review pages do not provide the option for half-stars

In addition to conducting interviews, I also analysed Reddit comments to gather user feedback on the Goodreads UI.

Based on the reviews, users are frustrated by the unavailability of half-star ratings for their finished books. Other users have transitioned to Storygraph, Goodreads's direct competitor and suggested that it is visually cleaner and provides better customisation in terms of reviews.

Goals criteria
1. Ease of use - essential information is easy to access with seamless flow
2. Review customisation - enhance the review section for a richer user experience
3. To encourage not only frequent readers of exciting book news but also users who want to incorporate light reading into their everyday life
